Para além dos produtos Biológicos e Dietéticos e dos produtos Tecnológicos – os Biologicos-e-dieteticos porque representam a natureza, o respeito por ela, o retorno a processos e metodologias menos prejudicais do ambiente, o retorno à base, à essência e os Tecnológicos porque permitem a evolução, a descoberta da verdade, a pesquisa, a investigação – existem outras áreas que também me chamam a atenção, nomeadamente a genética. A genética para mim é uma paixão. A forma como em cada uma das nossas células temos um “livro de receitas” com tudo o que faz de nós o que somos, deixa-me desde sempre fascinada! É claro que a influência do ambiente tem muito que dizer, mas, se nessas receitas não estivesse prevista uma das formas como o ambiente nos pode afetar, será que influenciaria mesmo? A infinidade de combinações de genes possível, o trabalho de Mendel (tão prático, tão experimental, tão cheio de paciência, de rigor, de precisão), a dominância vs recessividade, a lotaria genética, são sem dúvida apaixonantes. A genética como ciência tem o poder de descodificar a vida. E mesmo todo o genoma humano tendo já sido sequenciado ainda há uma imensidão por descobrir. Desde que com os avanços da ciência e da medicina tem sido possível prolongar a vida ou tornar viáveis seres que a natureza anteriormente descartava, cada vez mais variáveis (uma mais funcionais que outras), cada vez mais anomalias, cada vez mais doenças genéticas, vão surgindo, e um mundo cada vez maior se mostra para o descobrirmos. Compreender-nos profundamente, conhecer todas as combinações e suas consequências, será a chave do nosso futuro, a forma de funcionarmos no futuro, de resolver os problemas como sociedade. Se soubermos as causas inerentes a cada situação podemos decidir e agir de forma mais precisa e direcionada. Claro que muitos problemas éticos, do foro íntimo, pessoal, do foro comunitário, se podem levantar: quero mesmo saber se vou garantidamente ter cancro ou uma doença degenerativa?, o governo terá direito a exigir testes genéticos para garantir que os seus cidadãos sejam saudáveis e não dependam do sistema nacional de saúde?, o empregador terá direito de saber as características de personalidade de um trabalhador ou a probabilidade de este vir a adoecer?, deveremos deslocar-nos para outro local onde a expressão dos nossos genes nos garanta saúde (por exemplo locais com mais ou menos incidência solar conforme produzamos mais ou menos melanina para nos protegermos)? De todas estas dúvidas e questões éticas nos estaremos a rir daqui a umas décadas (mais ou menos décadas, conforme evolua a ciência e o conhecimento) quando for absolutamente natural termos todo este conhecimento profundo que agora nos habituamos a não ter. Tudo, até como conectamos com os outros, como reagimos às situações que o ambiente nos coloca, está escrito nos nossos genes. E toda essa memória, essa seleção, natural ou não (se pensarmos nas escolhas condicionadas que fazemos ou poderemos fazer) passamos para os nossos filhos, para as próximas gerações, condicionando os genes que se expressam e que estão disponíveis para se expressarem a seguir, apesar da imensa variedade que existe e poderá existir em potência. A genética é sem dúvida fascinante, cheia de mistério e possibilidades. Às tantas estas paixões não são assuntos assim tão estanques, separados, uma vez, que a tecnologia foi e é imprescindível para a descodificação do Código da Vida, para a transmissão dessa informação, e a preocupação com a procura de produtos biológicos, vegan, amigos do ambiente, já reflete um maior conhecimento daquilo que é transversal a todos os seres vivos, um respeito maior pela natureza, pelo seu equilíbrio, pelo seu funcionamento, por aquilo que nos dá e qual o nosso papel em tudo isto! De qualquer forma é o Código da Vida que nos faz quem somos, que te permite Be your self – Be your best – Enjoy your life!
